Lee Roy Selmon's history combines the virtues of family football scholarships and volunteering for the community. First family he is the youngest of the nine children born to Lucious Selmon and Jessie. They grew up on a farm in Eufala, Oklahoma. He played second in football and was one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. All three were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey was a starter for the entire 1973 season. Lee Roy received the Outland and Lombardi Awards for being the best lineman of the United States. Over the course of three seasons, Roy was a starter, Oklahoma won two National Championships. In 1975, he was awarded the third scholarship of his career and was named the National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon received a bachelor's diploma from the University of California, Berkeley. Lee Roy was involved in volunteering for ten hours per week throughout his college years. Following college, he relocated to Tampa and played for nine years for the Buccaneers. He was an All-Pro three times. After that, he began his professional career. The first job he had was a Account Relations Officer with First Florida Bank, Tampa. In the past, he worked previously for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce honored his name in 1982, as among the top 10 youths in the US. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 lbs when he played college football. In 1975, he led the squad. In 1993, he became the associate director of Athletics at University of South Florida. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 presented the Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor who presented this award.
