Aiming to break down the stereotypes of women that have been portrayed in pop culture she also works to highlight issues related to targeted exploitation of women and the other marginalized groups of people in the online world. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in the field of political and social thought from York University. As a public speaker, she's highly sought after and has been a speaker at TEDxWomenXOXO and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Passionate about issues of gender identity and feminism from an early age she launched her own website Feminist Frequency in 2009 while studying at the University. It was a girl determined to make the series of videos on the internet which would explore gender roles in video games. But, she was victimized by online harassment. But the assault did have been a hindrance, rather it only strengthened her resolve to be a feminist media critic. The award-winning journalist has received numerous accolades for her numerous significant contributions to the world of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her role as a critic of media and founded Feminist Frequency. The non-profit investigates women's representation in pop culture today.
